[EVA] Evangelion Tokusatsu?

This comes off to me as two companies who
refuse to let their biggest franchise die. Its bad
enough that I have two DVDs to buy soon, and now this
happens. First, Gainax starts messing with the
original show in the form of the superfluous remaster,
and now, before that's even fully out, they partner
with ADV on this live action endeavor. Sure, even I
have had my thoughts on what a live action Eva would
be like, but realistically can't see a happy outcome.
Regardless of special effects, you can't fit something
like Evangelion into a mere two hours, even if they
planned a trilogy, it would ultimately feel rushed.
If Eva didn't have as much focus on the
characters and their psyches as it does, then maybe
something like this would work. Films, with some
exceptions, focus more on story and action, leaving
little time for enough character development. Its the
reason why there isn't a Babylon 5 film; it just
doesn't work in that time frame. Chances are we will
get mostly cookie cutter characters to go with our
awesome, digitized, hand-built Evangelion models.
Sadly, it looks like Gainax and ADV are doing
with Eva what Paramount has been doing to Star Trek
for some time; casting quality ideas to the wind in
favor of quick mundane ones in an effort to suck the
show dry as it fades to the annuls of time and memory.
This happens to nearly every big franchise. Doing this
usually results in killing a show off, and alienating
its fans in the process. Whether I'm the only one who
feels this way or not, I hope this film project
doesn't turn out nearly as misguided as it sounds.
Even though I still consider Neon Genesis Evangelion
one of, perhaps even my favorite anime, even I have
moved on. More Evangelion is, in the end, simply not
necessary.
