[EVA] Explain the theory.

This may be a stupid question, but how exactly are the
power systems in an Eva supposed to work. I've come up
with three lines of reasoning but can't reconcile
them.

1: Electricity is drivenm through the Eva much in the
same way as the 
experiment that that bloke did with the kicking dead
frog. This would explain the need for external power
via the cable and the internal batteries.

2: S2 Engine - just what principles is this thing
based on and what the hell does it do anyway other
than make Eva reject it?

3: Eva has eaten things before (ie bits of angel),
however, the amount of material needed to sustain a
bio-mechanical device that big is quite  substantial.
This theory doesn't match up with the other two.

How then?
