Seriously, though, I don't understand why they don't go for this in
franchise extensions. Star Trek novels, for instance. I stopped reading them
when I got out of jr. high. They were predictable and stupid with that reset
button. They should take a clue from fanfic and just tell the reader "this
novel is going to be an alternate take on events. Some novels start from a
what-if in the actual continuity. This one is a whole new scenario. This is
not part of the main Trek continuity, just an alternate universe like
Mirror, Mirror. Do enjoy."

Oh well. I can just pretend that GOS was better than it was. :)
