No one is "hating" anyone, but this subject has stirred in me the same
reaction I have when I see most American sci-fi/action/horror films: those
horrible studio endings. You know, when they test-screen several versions of
the ending to a "lowest common denominator" audience. Gee, if *everyone* likes
it, it must be good. Hah! What's missing in most American cinema is vision.
Oh, it's probably there in the early stages, but once the studios dumb it down
for mainstream, it's milquetoast. No offense to Ms. Grant or any of the VAs,
but how about this: if they want to change lines of someone else's vision, why
don't they create their own series or movie? Everyone's an armchair
quarterback, but few can come up with plays that work! The point of Eva is
that it's someone else's vision, and we must sort it out and relate it to our
own feelings and the way we live our lives. Why do I suddenly have memories of
the "robot" planes from the Americanized version of Gatchaman? I got it!
Kawaru was a robot, Yeah, that's it! Just like the Terminator! Gimme a break.
