[EVA] Did Shinji rape Asuka (in EoE)?

Please bear in mind I have seen EoE too many times, mostly Manga's 
translation.

But some things have niggled me for a long time, so I need your POVs.

In the hospital scene, we hear Shinji's heavy breathing & see his sticky 
fingers - & come to a gentler verdict than Shinji gives himself.

Shinji degenerates to a death-wish state of mind, much more so than he is at 
the end or ep.24 in the TV show. Something else happened to make him want to 
die so abjectly, after losing Kaworu. And IMO that could be what he did in 
Asuka's room in the hospital.

If Shinji's reflection & new self-hate of himself is really as strong as 
"f****d up", as a good interpretation, masturbation over a half-naked girl 
would not push him over the edge.  But raping a unconscious half-naked 
vulnerable girl might.

Stronger supposition is in his confession to poor, dying, Misato, that he 
did something truly awful to Asuka.  Again the self-loathing she is trying 
to snap him out of, & he is arguing is hopeless, comes from a more serious 
action.
