You, er, V, may have that point of view, but it is also true that  
Gainax themselves have always taken the opposite view towards fan- 
made things, particularly the pornographic ones. When I spoke of Anno  
and Sadamoto contributing to doujinshi, I meant pornographic  
doujinshi. They began as convention organizers, parody film makers,  
and sellers of the kind of stuff you find in artists' s alleys. This  
doesn't mean you have to agree or to emulate them, but these are the  
kind of people who made Evangelion in the first place. The TV series  
is packed with fan service--that aspect of Eva was not invented by  
the toy companies, it was invented by Gainax.
