I doubt it. The manga is a noticeably shallower and more clichéd work
than the series, and the trend of the endgame suggests to me that
Sadamoto is by now completely at a loss as to how to end the manga in an
appropriately "epic" fashion given just how far he has diverged from the
main storyline, and is simply giving a carbon copy of, at least #25'.
When he gets to #26', he will be as lost as any fan fiction writer.
Since Sadamoto is writing a Shinji/Rei centered work, with Asuka
relegated to comic relief, and since I sincerely doubt he had the mettle
to detonate the Big Irony Bomb(I wouldn't consider the above scene as
counting), he has no real material—excepting Kaworu's death—to drive his
(noticeably more confident) Shinji into a deep spiral of depression. I
doubt then that Sadamoto really wants to make his Third Impact an
allegory for Shinji's suicide, nor would it be appropriate to do so
considering just how far the manga has diverged in content and theme
from the series.
I foresee two possibilities. Firstly, Sadamoto will attempt a rather
hackneyed and tamer retelling of the End of Evangelion, initiating Third
Impact but changing the themes and outcomes slightly to allow for a more
optimistic ending. Secondly, Sadamoto's Third Impact will be a far more
contained event, with Shinji probably ending up saving the day and
everyone _living_ happily ever after. Either way, I'm not going to be
able to bear reading it.
I'm being awfully negative about this I know. But my opinion for some
time is that the manga is essentially a doujinshi which happens to be
published by someone who worked on the original show. I don't discount
the manga as an admirable work, but I do not regard it as being anywhere
in the same league as the series or other mangas; say, Berserk.
