....I hear a lot of backlash against the English dubbers....largely
because they aren't speaking Japanese.
While I do think there are quite a few differences with the original
Japanese (some of which I am painfully aware of where ADV misinterpreted a
scene)....specifically what scenes are you thinking of when you say that
ADV "buddied it down", dumbed it down, for mass consumption? besides the
couple of translation mistakes; when did they "dumb it down"? Even in the
original japanese, alot of whats going on with Nerv is just non-verbally
implied or something.
Just to get our facts straight: I do think the "DVD extras" made by ADV
have no redeeming value whatsoever; these people are voice actors and
dubbers, so what should we expect, but that they'd talk about what they
know? i.e. the whole DVD commentary is mostly just them talking about the
other voice actors and what else they worked on; I don't vilify them for
this, they're just "talking about what they know". They're not Hideaki
Anno....so I don't expect them to be. but not-great DVD extras aside, I'm
focusing on the actual translations here: what was so "dumbed down"?
specifically? I'd actually like to know so I can compare on my own.
