I think past Evangelion DVDs have had the scripts (as
a slideshow) as an extra.

Perhaps because the movies are digests of the TV
series. The movie's about 90 minutes long. It covers
the first 6 episodes of the TV series, which would be
about 130-150 minutes. So some of the lighter or less
important scenes, which would've helped flesh out the
characters, are left out. What's left in are the
scenes more critical to the storyline ie the fight
against the Angels. In those scenes Misato is more
likely to be snappier/senior/in control. All just
IMO.

I've always thought Asuka added a lot to the series.
She provides the energy. Without her, Evangelion
would've been left the moody, whining Shinji and the
emotionless Rei.
