It came from the Film Books (or whatever they're
called.) But to me that's still equivocal. Even
assuming those books could be considered canon, it's
clear that Shinji, went through the Complementation
process. I'm one of those who believes that, at the
end of the TV series, having been through the process,
having had to opportunity to communicate with others
more openly after Complemention, he decided to reject
becoming one big mass consciousness. So, yes, he's
gone through the Complementation process, yes, he's
smiling, but he rejected the process at the end.

There just

It seems to me there are a number of possible views
people could take:

1. the endings are the same, but merely different
depictions of the same events;

2. the endings may not necessarily depict the same
events, but at the end of the TV series, Shinji also
rejects the process;

3. the endings are different, with TV series resulting
in Shinji accepting the process and the movie
resulting in Shinji rejecting it.

I take the second view. It's not important to me
whether you can match each scene in TV episodes 25 &
26 with scenes in the movie, but I think Shinji's
choice in both is the same.

I think it would be interesting to know how much the
film ending influenced people's interpretation of the
TV ending.

Personally, I formed the view that the TV ending
resulted in Shinji rejecting the process even before
the movie came out.

The fact that the staff was unable to create a
suitable finale seems equivocal to me. If that's all
Tsurumaki said, that doesn't give me reason to revise
my thinking either.

Also, it

See above. I had formed my view of the TV ending
before the movie came out. But I do think it would be
interesting to see if the movie ending influenced
people's interpretation.

Just wait until the EoTV vs EoE vs End of Rebuild
movies thread in a few years' time :D

You seem to be presenting this as fact, when (I
assume) it's only your own interpretation.
