[EVA] Tangent: EoTV vs EoE (again?)

It's simple really. We're right, they're wrong.
Blam!
In the years since this whole debacle, while I've grown apathetic
towards the whole issue, I haven't seen/heard anything that clearly
states Episode 26 is the exact same story as EoE. With all outside
references stating the opposite, including Tsurumaki's interview where
he articulates the TV series ending is very much a representation of
the staff's breakdown and inability to create a suitable finale, I
have found no reason to revise my thinking on the subject. Also, it
must be brought into consideration how much the events of the film are
influencing people's thoughts on the TV ending. When that first aired
there was little doubt that Shinji had fallen victim to
Complementation along with everyone else. It wasn't until the film
that this whole argument began.
I don't understand why people are so passionate about the topic
though. It's almost as if fans so vehemently want both endings to have
Shinji make the right choice that they sour at the mere mention that
that is not the case. It's far more interesting, to me, to have the
endings different.
