You're taking this way more belligerantly than it needs to be taken.
I don't remember whether the "smile of the complemented" remark referred to
Shinji's final expression comes from, it's been a long time. There just
isn't only one reference to that take, though, and as for your last bit,
"the actual series" as an expression disregards how subjective perception of
the same may alter it and in fact make it not a fact at all. Isn't this all
what discussion on Eva has been about for the past years? Mind you, I'm not
among the lot that says that everything is open to interpretation, but Eva
being a show with a lot of deficient aspects when it comes to clarity, your
conclusions appear to me to be based on selective deductions. For one, the
visuals you cite as points of parallelism were just as easily, and in fact
much more easily - considering the make-do nature of the tv ending - what
they already had ready at the time the money ran out and wouldn't want to
leave unused.

I'm not telling you to embrace my perspective, I'd just like you not to
write in a way that feels a bit too scoffing.
