Why does reality fracture, and everyone smile the same smile and say the same words while floating above the world in a blue void above the Earth? Why are dead people hanging out with the living in such a manner? Why does Shinji speak via the Tel-op? How is he omniscient in such a manner?
People seem to think that Episode 26 ends with the shattering of the auditorium and ignore that final scene. The final scene is the most important of them all. And if you look at that scene, it's hard to reconcile that with the idea of escaping from Instrumentality. Everyone's happy, yes, but they've all lost their identity.

Because the two are like parallel universes. Similar things happen in them, but that doesn't make them the same.
Look, the TV ending was done at the last minute, based on the originally planned ending and using as much of the footage for that original ending as they could salvage. Nevertheless, the movie ending doesn't mesh with it. Kaworu, who plays a major role in the movie ending has none in the TV ending. And the TV ending , rushed and incoherent as it is, doesn't end the same way as the movie did. The TV ending's message is "you can be happy because reality is subjective." The Movie ending's message is "Life may be painful, but it's worth it."
It's like taking the various cuts of Brazil and claiming that they're all the same because they share a common beginning. Sure, one cut makes the film have an artificially happy ending while the other makes it a horrific tragedy, but there was some common scenes to both right?

The final scene.
In all the years I've been involved with EVA fandom, I've yet to see a "The two endings are the same" supporter give me an explanation for that final scene of the TV ending that works. (I can grudgingly accept the "The TV ending has Shinji in the instrumentality, but then he escapes it later as in EoE" PoV)
